The Canadian War Cemeteries in the Netherlands are searching for pictures and information about fallen soldiers.
Pieter Valkenburg is a Dutch-Canadian researcher from the Maritimes who is trying to gather data in order to put ‘Faces to Graves’. He says about 7,600 Canadian soldiers lost their lives and were buried there in World War II. Valkenburg notes the Dutch people are still very thankful for the liberation of The Netherlands and they want to pass this information along to their children.
Valkenburg is hoping someone has a photo or more information about Sergeant Allan Gordon Coutts. Coutts served with the North Nova Scotia Islanders and died in 1945 when he was 22 years old. He was born in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan but his family moved to Olds and his parents – Benjamin and Susan – are buried at the Olds Cemetary. Susan passed away in 1943 and Benjamin died in 1979.
Valkenburg explains why this project is so important to him.
Anyone with information about the Coutts family or a photo of Allan can contact Pieter via email dariadv@yahoo.ca.
