Alberta Health Minister Tyler Shandro is being close-lipped about which public health restrictions, if any, are being considered by the government as COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations grow.
When pressed by the media yesterday, Shandro declined to comment on whether the province is considering businesses closures or restrictions for the unvaccinated.
Meanwhile, 1,473 new cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed during the past 24 hours in Alberta. About 13,600 (13,625) tests were conducted for a test positivity rate of approximately 10.8 percent.
There are 686 individuals hospitalized in Alberta due to COVID-19. The number of patients in intensive care units is 169.
10 new deaths have occurred. The number of lives lost due to the virus in Alberta is 2,444.
Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health continued to encourage eligible Albertans to get immunized during Thursday’s press conference. Dr. Deena Hinshaw noted that in the past two months, no fully vaccinated Albertan under the age of 60 has died from COVID-19.
The number of active cases of COVID-19 has increased to 16,265 – up by 288 from September 9th.
616 new variant cases have been identified.
There are 4,814 active cases of COVID-19 in the Edmonton Zone, 4,485 in the Calgary Zone, and 2,313 in the Central Zone.
Crossfield is reporting 27 active cases of the virus. The Three Hills/Highway 21 area is at 44, Sundre is down to 46, the Didsbury/Carstairs/South Mountain View County area is down to 77, Innisfail is up to 96, Sylvan Lake is up to 90, Olds is down to 112, and Rocky Mountain House is up to 184.
Red Deer County is up to 193 active cases of COVID-19, while Mountain View County is down to 123.
More than 247,000 (247,328) Albertans have recovered from the virus.
As of September 9th, over 5.6 million (5,634,146) doses of vaccine have been administered in Alberta. In Sundre, 52.7 percent of people of all ages have been immunized with at least one dose, while 48 percent are fully vaccinated.
