Yellowhead County, Alberta – On January 5th, at approximately 6:35 p.m. Edson RCMP, RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstruction, Yellowhead County Fire Department, Yellowhead County Peace Officers and EMS responded to a two vehicle collision in the westbound lanes of Highway 16 near Range Road 130 (Niton Junction).
The preliminary investigation revealed a small passenger car that was travelling westbound had collided with the rear of a westbound semi-tractor trailer. The semi-tractor trailer had entered onto the highway and was accelerating when it was struck by the car. The driver of the car was the sole occupant and had to be extricated from the vehicle by fire crews. A 37-year-old man, from Edson, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The name of the deceased will not be released.
The driver of the semi-tractor unit was not physically injured.
The Edson RCMP and RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstruction continue to investigate this collision; however, no charges are anticipated.
