The top 2007 born male hockey players in the province were in Red Deer over the weekend for the 2022 Alberta Cup.
Goaltender Corbin Sanderman from Three Hills backstopped Team Black to the championship thanks to a 6-5 shootout victory on Sunday over Team Grey.
Sanderman made 43 saves during 70 minutes of action in the final game. He then turned aside all three of the Team Grey players in the shootout. Sanderman kicked out 21 of 23 as Team Black won its opening game of the tournament 5-2 on Thursday over Team Yellow. On Friday, he stopped 36 of 39 in a 3-all tie with Team Green. The 15 year old finished the Alberta Cup with a 2-0-1 record with a .909 save percentage and a 3.16 goals against average.
Players who participated at this year’s Alberta Cup hope to hear their names called later this month when the Western Hockey League holds its Prospects Draft on Thursday, May 19th.
