Vegreville’s Val Sweeting and Team Einarson have won the final grand slam of curling tour stop of the season.
On Sunday in the Town of Olds, Team Einarson defeated South Korea’s Team Gim 10-6 in the women’s final of the 2022 Kioti Tractor Champions Cup.
Sweeting and company had to do it the hard way though as they won three games in a row on Saturday just to qualify for the finals. They topped South Korea’s Team Kim 7-4 in a tiebreaker before beating Ottawa’s Team Homan 5-3 in the quarterfinals and Sweden’s Team Hasselborg 6-4 in the semifinals.
Now that the season is done, Sweeting was asked what she thought the highlight was for Team Einarson.
This is the fourth grand slam of curling title for Team Einarson. Sweeting discusses their week in Olds.
Meanwhile, the men’s final of the Kioti Tractor Champions Cup saw Team Gushue from St. John’s triumph 8-5 over Calgary’s Team Koe. Gushue has now won 13 grand slam events during his curling career.
