The Alberta government announced a $7.5 million dollar contribution last month to Sundre’s wastewater treatment plant.
The one-time grant for upgrades to the Town’s wastewater treatment plant will be received after a pilot project to test new technology has been evaluated. The pilot project – which ends in 2023 – is part of plans to upgrade the wastewater treatment plant with new and innovative technology.
Sundre Mayor Richard Warnock says it is exciting news and construction will create about 70 jobs.
Warnock adds, over the long term – because of the scalability of the technology – this could save Sundre millions of dollars in the ultimate build.
He says the Town is grateful to the province for supporting the project.
Warnock notes it is something they have been working on for more than four years,
The estimated project cost is $11.5 million dollars, according to Warnock.
