The war in Ukraine has displaced millions of Ukrainians while destroying their homes and economic lives.
Peter Premachuk is owner of H and R Block in Olds, his Ukrainian roots began with his grandfather who moved to the prairies from Europe in the early 1900s.
Since the Russian Invasion began over three weeks ago, life has changed dramatically for millions of Ukrainians and their families.
Premachuk says he hasn’t had much contact with his family overseas, but since the war began he has found out about one of his long distant relative’s struggle to find safety.
He continues that Sonia is from Western Ukraine, which has been relatively safe during the conflict.
However, the family did experience nearby bombing and found themselves in the middle of live combat training.
Premachuk says he is now working to get Sonia and her family to Canada.
A bank account has been opened to help pay for airfare and other immigration expenses.
If you are interested or able to support Sonia and her family escape the war in Ukraine and come to Canada, send an E-Transfer to the email, SoniaToCanada@Gmail.com.
