This is the seventh week of Alberta’s transition to weekly COVID-19 reporting.
The numbers shared on Wednesday (May 4th) cover the time period from April 26th to May 2nd.
5,735 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the province during the past week based on a total of 25,568 tests. Alberta’s Health Minister Jason Copping says the province’s test positivity rate for COVID is at 23 per cent for the past week, which is down from 25.9 per cent during the previous week.
According to the geospatial data on the alberta.ca website, 5 new case of COVID-19 have been reported in Sundre during the past 7 days, 17 in Innisfail, 23 in the Didsbury/Carstairs South Mountain View County area, and 25 in Olds.
There are currently 1,267 individuals in hospital in the province due to COVID-19, which is up by 141 from last week’s total. 46 of those patients are in intensive care units – that is down by 1 from last week.
69 new deaths related to the virus have occurred during the past week. Alberta’s total number of deaths due to COVID-19 during the pandemic is 4,321.
