March 8th is International Women’s Day.
It is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.
Wrestler Danielle Lappage represented Canada and the Town of Olds at the Olympics in both Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2021. She says International Women’s Day is a time to think back and reflect on all the women who have done what they have done to let her be where she is today.
She discusses who some of the inspirational women have been for each facet of her life.
Lappage passed along some words of wisdom for young women and athletes who may also have dreams of one day making it to the Olympics.
Lappage has three degrees – including a law degree from the University of Calgary. The 32 year old lives in Vancouver with her husband and she works as a lawyer for the B.C. government. Recently she has also been coaching wrestling at provincial high school camps in B.C., and with students at Simon Fraser University.
Recognize International Women’s Day on social media by using the hashtags #IWD2023 and #EmbraceEquity.
