Albertans forced to evacuate due to wildfire for 7 consecutive days or more will be eligible for emergency financial assistance.
Premier Danielle Smith and government of Alberta officials made that announcement on Monday, May 8th as the provincial state of emergency due to the current wildfire situation continues.
If eligible, you can apply to receive $1,250 per adult and $500 per dependent child. Starting on Tuesday, May 9th evacuees can apply at Alberta.ca/emergency.
Evacuated farmers and ranchers with ag and livestock-related questions can contact the province’s wildfire resource line at 310-4455.
Meantime, agricultural societies across the province may have room for livestock evacuated from wildfire areas.
Buck Thompson, Operations Manager with the Olds Regional Exhibition, says they have always been a community driven organization so to help out those that are in need, it felt like the right thing to do to offer up the space they have available.
Thompson says they have about 80 or 90 box stalls in the infield plus the rodeo pens which would be open for either cattle or horses. He adds, they haven’t had anyone contact them yet but they are more than happy to offer these facilities to help people out.
If you have been evacuated and need space for livestock you can contact Buck at the Olds Regional Exhibition at 403-994-0828.
