May 18 | Red Deer, AB – Westerner Park is pleased to announce the appointment of Ian Allan as the Interim General Manager, Operations, effective June 1.
Ian brings with him a wealth of operational and project management experience, making him an excellent fit for this crucial role within the organization.
Throughout his career, Ian has successfully planned and executed numerous major events and projects, showcasing his exceptional leadership skills and ability to deliver outstanding results. Notably, Ian served as the Director of Venues and Sport for the 2019 Canada Games Host Society in Red Deer, where he played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of this prestigious event.
Commenting on his new appointment, Ian expressed his excitement about joining Westerner Park, stating, “I am honored to have the opportunity to contribute to the continued growth and success of Westerner Park. I look forward to working with the dedicated team and leveraging my expertise to enhance the operational efficiency of this exceptional organization.”
Ian’s arrival comes as Mike Olesen, the current Chief Executive Officer, steps into a key leadership position within the City of Red Deer. During his tenure at Westerner Park, Mike has led the organization through a period of significant change and growth, navigating various challenges, including the profound impact of the pandemic on the industry.
Reflecting on his time at Westerner Park, Mike shared, “It has been my honor to serve Westerner Park for these past four years. We have accomplished remarkable work amidst the ever-changing landscape of our industry, and I am confident that the organization is well-positioned to thrive moving forward.”
Deb Beck, President & Board Chair, on behalf of the Board, Volunteers, Shareholders, and staff, expressed gratitude for Mike’s dedication and extended well wishes for his future endeavors. She emphasized the ongoing connection between Westerner Park and the City of Red Deer, stating, “Given Westerner Park’s relationship with the city, Mike will continue to remain engaged with and supportive of Westerner Park as it strives for stabilization.”
Deb also highlighted the value that Ian Allan brings to the organization during this interim period. She emphasized his extensive background in leading and managing major events and event venues, which will prove invaluable as Westerner Park prepares to host Westerner Days, the highlight of the year, along with other events throughout the year.
“The Board has been diligently working on a transition plan since the announcement of Mike’s resignation, ensuring a seamless changeover,” Deb explained. “This period has allowed us to plan a solid transition strategy while we continue our search for the right replacement for our CEO.”
