February 2nd marks the 20th anniversary of the launch of CKFM as the brand new radio station for Olds and area.
Station Manager/Owner Brian Hepp with CAB-K Broadcasting reflected on the first song that played when the station signed on in the winter of 2004.
Hepp says it has been absolutely fantastic and in so many ways a dream come true of how great and supportive this area has been for all of the different things the radio station for Olds and area has done.
On Groundhog Day of 2004, he notes that the station launched as 97.7 CK-FM on the dial and it later became what it is today 96.5 CKFM.
Hepp says it turned out to be a regional station pretty soon into it as well.
He fondly remembers having family, friends, colleagues, and local dignitaries – including the MLA for this constituency at the time, Richard Marz – on hand at the station for the opening day festivities.
Hepp discusses what the journey has been like over the course of the past two decades for CKFM and later ROCK 104.5 in central Alberta and the Town of Olds.
Hepp says the first song that played as CKFM launched during the 7am hour on Groundhog Day of 2004 was ‘Move It On Over’ by Travis Tritt which also served as a bit of a slogan for finding the new station on your radio dial.
