Budget 2024 includes $1.9 billion dollars for planning, design, and construction of major highway and bridge projects.
Devin Dreeshen, Alberta’s Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors, was on hand last Friday at Graham Construction & Engineering in Edmonton to outline the Government of Alberta’s highway construction program for this year.
Dreeshen says Budget 2024 affirms the provincial government’s commitment to new and ongoing highway improvement projects – including the Terwillegar Expansion in Edmonton as well as other important projects across the province including twinning on Highway 11 between Sylvan Lake and Rocky Mountain House, the Highway 22/1A interchange at Cochrane, Highway 201 Bow River Bridge on southeast Stoney Trail, and the Deerfoot Trail upgrades.
He says the budget also looks at the province’s future needs and includes funding for engineering and design of crucial new projects including the replacement of the interchange at Highway 2 at Balzac, and the twinning of Highway 63 north of Fort McMurray.
Dreeshen says there are over 100 capital projects and highway upgrades throughout the province and they are all designed to improve safety, to decrease travel time, and to keep pace with our population and investment growth. Together with municipalities, he says Alberta’s government is building the province, not just to make it the best to live in Canada but also the best place in the world to live, to work, and to raise a family.
